The University of Iowa

This learning analytics umbrella IRB supports faculty who wish to conduct learning analytics research.

Learning analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs (SoLAR, 2011).

The purpose of the learning analytics (LA) umbrella IRB is to support Iowa faculty researchers who wish to explore the role and impact of analytics on teaching and learning. The Iowa LA umbrella IRB provides faculty researchers a simpler process of IRB application and delivers de-identified data to answer research questions. Research under this umbrella should be focused first and foremost on student learning and support, including improvement of the teaching and learning environment.

To start the process, please follow the steps below.
