The University of Iowa

Change is Coming to the Wiki (Confluence)

Due to price increases coming from Atlassian (the company that makes Confluence), the University of Iowa Wiki service can no longer be offered as a centrally funded IT service.

If you are a current Wiki user, you have four options to choose from going forward:

  1. Move your content yourself to another service
  2. Have OTLT migrate your content to SharePoint
  3. Purchase a Confluence (Wiki) license from University of Iowa ITS. To determine what you have and the cost, visit the Wiki Space and User Inventory page
  4. If you no longer need any Wiki content, no further action is needed on your part

We ask that users decide and complete any necessary forms by Oct. 1, 2023. The current wiki.uiowa.edu service will be removed in Dec. 2023. To find out more about these four options and answers to your questions, please visit the Wiki Service Change Options and FAQ page

What is Wiki?

The wiki service offers a collaborative workspace for a variety of purposes, including departmental and instructional use. The wiki is a web-based tool for collaboration and discussion. Users are able to create and manage their own wiki space. Popular uses include team notes or documentation, information sharing, or collaboration with classmates and external researchers. Features of the wiki include threaded discussion, embedded media, revision history, and seamless integration with the ICON Dashboard. Please note that wiki spaces are not to be used for critical or restricted data. Visit the wiki homepage to see examples, tutorials, and to apply for your own wiki space.

Instructions on alternative spaces using University of Iowa services can be found on our Wiki Alternatives page
