Classroom Technology Troubleshooting Guide

The Learning Spaces Technology [LST] group provides consulting, design, installation, training, management and support for 300+ technology-equipped University Classrooms [UCRs] across campus and classrooms assigned to departments.

Classroom Updates

Beginning Fall semester of 2020, all UCRs will have webcams and microphones for use with UICapture software for lecture capture and podcasting, and Zoom software for synchronous classroom delivery:
•  Camera - Huddly Go, web conferencing camera, 150-degree wide-angle lens, USB HD webcam on flexible arm mount
•  Microphone - MXL AC-404 USB Conferencing boundary mic

Beginning Fall semester of 2021, all UCRs will have Solstice Pods for in-classroom wireless content sharing, and Zoom-compatible document cameras:
•  Wireless Presentation Device - Mersive Solstice Pod with unlimited connections
•  Document Camera - WolfVision vSolutions Cam document camera

• My Video Projector Is Not Turning On. What Can I Do?

• Who Do I Call to Reserve One of the University Classrooms?

  • The scheduling of University Classrooms is handled via the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Registrar with Classroom Scheduling.

• What Do I Do if a University Classroom is Locked?

  • Electronic door locks for University Classrooms are set to unlock 15 minutes prior to the start of class, remain unlocked during the duration of class, and continue to be unlocked 15 minutes following the end of class. If a Classroom is locked during a scheduled class or event, you may contact the Facilities Management Work Control Center at (319) 335-5071 for assistance.

• One of the Lights is Burned Out. Who Do I Contact?

  • For building lights contact Facilities Management Work Control at 5-5071.

• My Laptop Needs an Adapter to Connect to the Room System. Do You Provide Them?

  • Learning Spaces Technology does not provide adapters to connect a personal laptop to the in room systems. All University Classrooms have a VGA connection and nearly all provide an HDMI connection. If you would like to make sure what connections are available you can contact us at classroom-technology@uiowa.edu.

• The Temperature in the Classroom Needs to be Adjusted. Who Do I Talk To?

  • For temperature concerns contact Facilities Management Work Control at 5-5071.

• The Microphone Drawer is Locked. Where Do I Get a Key?

  • Please contact the ITS Help Desk to inquire about the check-out process, or visit 2800 UCC (2nd floor of the Old Capitol Mall) to check out a key at the ITS Reception Desk. Please be prepared to present your Iowa One Card.  ITS Reception Desk hours are Mon-Fri: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
