University Classroom Technology Guide

Document Camera & Zoom

This guide shows how to use the document camera [doc cam] in a University Classroom [UCR] through Zoom web conferencing in the event a document camera not present itself as a camera input in Zoom. Each University Classroom is equipped with a document camera to help facilitate teaching and learning through either in-person or virtual instruction.

Please note: for either resolution below, the document camera requires a USB cable connection to the lectern computer.

Launch Zoom app [Windows/Mac]

  1. Power document camera on
  2. In Zoom, select Share Screen
  3. Select the Advanced tab and then select Content from 2nd Camera
  4. Click Share button
  5. The connected document camera should now show through the screen sharing option in Zoom
  6. You may toggle camera input [between document camera and video camera] by clicking the Switch Camera button at top left corner of shared window

If the previous instruction does not produce a shareable document camera image, please try the next option.

Launch vSolution Link app [available for Windows only; if not found on workstation, request for install through ITS Help Desk]

  1. Go to the Windows Search Bar by clicking the magnifying glass icon, or using the Windows key on the keyboard
  2. Type vSolution Link and click Enter [alternatively, vSolution Link is listed along with installed programs]
  3. If prompted, select Finish on the Settings Configuration Wizard window
  4. If prompted with a window titled, "Missing firmware files detected," or "Newer versions detected," select No
  5. Once in the vSolution Link app, select OK to the pop-up warning of "frame rate drop when using Annotation" if prompted
  6. With the Live Preview tab selected, double-click the document camera type detected [no document camera will be detected by the app if the document camera is not powered ON; power document camera ON and then select the Refresh button in the vSolution Link app, if needed]

Please note: should document camera remain undetected, then power and USB cables to document camera should be disconnected/reconnected before revisiting previous steps

  1. A Live Preview window should populate on the computer screen; you may maximize [or adjust size, by dragging corner of Live Preview window] Live Preview window if you plan to share entire screen
  2. In Zoom, select Share Screen
  3. Select the Basic tab and then select the Live Preview window option
  4. Click Share button
  5. The connected document camera should now show through the screen sharing option in Zoom
  6. You may toggle camera input [between document camera and video camera] by clicking the Switch Camera button at top left corner of shared window
