Faculty now have the ability to use one or more of 7 key scramble options. They can use one option per key/form. This method saves a significant amount of time in processing and analyzing data.

To use the methods below, complete the foundation key/form (usually Key/Form A) and bring to the Copy Center. You no longer have to complete multiple keys if using the methods below. Indicate on the exam scoring job ticket which method you'd like to use for each additional key/form.

Note: Our scramble options allow for question (stem) order to be scrambled, NOT answer choices (foils).

Here are the patterns for automatic key linking:

1. Reversal – Item 1 = Item 10, Item 2 = Item 9, and so on.
KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-B, 2-A, 3-B, 4-C, 5-D, 6-E, 7-D, 8-C, 9-B, 10-A

2. Odd-Even-Switch – Item 1 = Item 2, Item 2 = Item 1, Item 3 = item 4, Item 4 = Item 3, and so on.
KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-B, 2-A, 3-D, 4-C, 5-D, 6-E, 7-B, 8-C, 9-B, 10-A

3. Split-Half-Switch – Items 1 – 5 = Items 6 – 10, Items 6 – 10 = Items 1 – 5. Easy setup for even number of items. If the item count is odd, like 11, then first half will be items 1 – 5, second half is 6 – 11.
KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-D, 2-C, 3-B, 4-A, 5-B, 6-A, 7-B, 8-C, 9-D, 10-E

4. Odd-Even-Switch Reversal – Combination of process 1 and 2 above. First, process the Odd-Even-Switch, then reverse the order.
KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-B, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-D, 9-A, 10-B

5. Split-Half-Switch Reversal – Combination of process 1 and 3 above. First, process the Split-Half-Switch, then reverse the order for each half.
KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-E, 2-D, 3-C, 4-B, 5-A, 6-B, 7-A, 8-B, 9-C, 10-D

6. Split-Half-Switch Odd-Even – Combination of process 3 and 2 above. First process Split-Half-Switch, then process Odd-Even-Switch.
KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-C, 2-D, 3-A, 4-B, 5-A, 6-B, 7-C, 8-B, 9-E, 10-D

7. Split-Half-Switch Odd-Even-Switch Reversal – Combination of 3, 2 and 1 above. First Process Split-Half-Switch, then process Odd-Even-Switch, then reverse the order.
KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-D, 2-E, 3-B, 4-C, 5-B, 6-A, 7-B, 8-A, 9-D, 10-C

All forms go by the foundation key, Key/Form A.

If you are using reversal (Item 1 = Item 10, Item 2 = Item 9, and so on), this is what the questions will look like this. The table cells are color-coded by question correlation between the keys.

KEY A:  1-A, 2-B, 3-C, 4-D, 5-E, 6-D, 7-C, 8-B, 9-A, 10-B
KEY B:  1-B, 2-A, 3-B, 4-C, 5-D, 6-E, 7-D, 8-C, 9-B, 10-A
